Who needs a building permit?

1 and 2 family houses, Commercial Buildings, All additions and alterations, Manufactured Homes, Decks, detached buildings or structures, re-siding, completely new windows or larger windows, .

How long is a building permit good for?

The project needs to be started within 6 months and completed within 18 months, i.e. 24 months

What building projects are exempt from a building permit?

Re-roofing and minor changes as deemed by building inspector (but it still may need an electrical inspection)

HOW ARE THE FEES DETERMINED?

REM Inspecting LLC PERMIT AND INSPECTION FEES as of 07/28/2020

1. Application Administration fee is $50 per project
2. Application assistance fee is $50
3. Change fee is $50, for alterations of conditionally approved design or scope of work
4. State of Wisconsin ‘New Home’ uniform building seal is $35 or current fee plus S&H
5. Permit to start fee (Excavation; footing & foundation only) is $160
6. New one- & two-family dwelling construction fee: ICC Building Valuation Data Cost per group / category x the inspection fee multiplier x square foot with an $800 minimum.
7. New commercial/industrial building construction fee: ICC Building Valuation Data Cost per group / category x the inspection fee multiplier x square foot of building with a $1000 minimum.
8. New construction for a structure, deck, porch, pool, spa, hot tub, shed, garage, accessory building fee: $80 per inspection type for residential, $125 per inspection type for commercial/industrial.
       a. Number of inspection types to be determined by the inspector at plan review
9. New Electrical for a service, feeder, branch circuit fee: $80 per inspection type for residential, $125 per inspection type for commercial/industrial.

10. Addition; Alteration; Remodel; Upgrade fee: $80 per inspection type for residential, $125 per inspection type for commercial/industrial.

11. Fee for modular dwelling unit or shell only dwelling unit is 80% of number 6 above.
12. Fee for manufactured ‘mobile’ home is $250 plus any additions such as deck, basement, etc. see item 10 above for addition fee
13. Penalty fee for starting a project without a permit is up to double the full permit fees
14. Re-inspection fee will be charged at the same rate as the original rate for a project not ready for inspection, failure to cancel inspection at least one hour prior to scheduled time, storage or personal items blocking necessary inspection areas, no access to site and/or building.
15. Plan review fee is charged out at the hourly rate
16. Any additional services requested are charged out at the hourly rate
17. Regular hourly rate is $80 per hour, M‐F, 8am to 5pm
18. Before or after‐hours; Holiday hourly rate is 1.5 times the regular rate
19. Mileage Rate is $1 per mile, round trip
20. Reimbursement of expenses plus costs
21. 20% City Administration fee added to all REMI fees

 

Who needs an electrical permit?

All new electrical installation to include service panel upgrades

SPS 316.012 no electrical wiring project may commence unless the owner of the premises where the installation is to occur or their agent holds a permit from the designated inspection agency if the electrical project involves the installation of new or addition to any electrical service, feeder, or branch circuit serving any of the following:

  1. A farm.
  2. A public building, structure, or premises.
  3. A place of employment.
  4. A campground.
  5. A manufactured home community.
  6. A public marina, pier, dock, or wharf.
  7. A recreational vehicle park.
  8. non-UDC building or structure

How long is an electrical permit good for?

12 months

Who needs an electrical inspection?

SPS 316.013 [All] electrical wiring installations shall be subject to inspection   *Including electrical wiring projects not requiring a permit.

PSC 114.003 [All] utilities must obtain proof (Certificate) of compliance with Volumes 1 & 2 of the Wisconsin State Electrical Code before energizing a service.

How is the electrical permit and electrical inspection fee determined?

The fees are based on the current City of Amery’s ordinance fee schedule, contact the city for exact fee amounts. Here is an example:

  1. The permit administration fee $50
  2. application assistance fee $50
  3. The Plan review fee is $80/hr if needed
  4. The inspection fee is $80 per hour (minimum of 1 hour) plus $1 per mile round trip per inspection.
  5. other fees (i.e. credit card fee; re-inspection fee; post-inspection fee; late fee; etc.)
